It looks like a small garment. The pattern logic is not the same.
A dog's chest depth, neck circumference and back length do not scale together. A dachshund and a greyhound of the same weight need completely different patterns. We grade by body type — chest depth and back length are treated as independent dimensions — rather than by a single size number.
A dog coat has to stay in place while the animal runs, sits and lies down. That means girth straps that do not rub the armpit, a neck opening that does not restrict, and a back length that does not shift forward over the shoulders. We fit on live dogs of the target body type, not on a static form.
