We review every kids' design against these before sampling. The most common failure we see in competitor samples is a decorative drawcord at the hood — which is a straightforward EN 14682 failure and an expensive one to discover at testing.
Designing for how children actually use a jacket
Three decisions separate a kids' jacket that gets worn from one that stays in the cupboard.
Abrasion where it counts
Children's jackets fail at the elbow, the cuff and the lower back — from desks, from playgrounds and from being dropped on the ground. We reinforce these points and use a face fabric with higher abrasion resistance than the equivalent adult style, even in lightweight constructions.
Closures a child can work
A zip a six-year-old cannot start is a reason the jacket does not get worn. We specify easy-start zips with a chin guard and a storm flap, and use velcro or magnetic closures at pockets and cuffs where the age group calls for it.
Room for a bag and a uniform
